Big Switch Off 2025

The Big Switch Off 2025

What is The Big Switch Off 2025?  The UK’s Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) isn’t meeting the needs of a digital world.  The UK’s traditional copped-based network will terminate at the end of 2025.

The PSTN and ISDN networks are based on the same technology that was spawned in the 1800s.  This network is engrained in our day-to-day lives both at home and at work over the last 100 years.  Not suprosing then that it’s no longer fit for purpose when it comes to day-to-day life in the 21st century.

Business and Consumer

The upcoming migration will affect businesses and consumers alike, as analogue lines at home from BT/Openreach will also be affected.

In addition to common telephones devices, anyone who relies on analogue circuits will need to upgrade their connections.  This includes alarm systems, EPOS machines, door entry systems, CCTV, and faxes.  This can become troublesome if your business relies on legacy hardware.

The disruption will be significant.  It is reported that only one in five businesses are fully aware of the PSTN switch off while many are still unsure what it means.

Digital Communications

CTO help customers switch from analogue to digital, and we can help you too!

Widely known as “The Big Switch Off”, it will leave organizations without phone service unelss they seek alternative solutions for existing legacy services.  Think of this in a similar way to the switch from analogue to digital TV in 2012.  When we reach November 2025, the entire UK population will no longer have access to the legacy copper network.

So, whether you have an analogue PSTN landline at home or an ISDN service in your office, this switch off will impact you.  You need to start thinking about your migration strategy and a migration toward cloud-based telecommunications.

Ask yourself, “Can my business continue to trade without voice and internet services?”  Evaluate what is important to your business.  The fact remains that telephony is regarded as one of the top three mission-critical services for just about everyone.

Moving to a cloud-native service isn’t as complex or as costly as you might perceive it to be.  Don’t be caught off guard, we can help you move to the cloud and deliver more benefits to your organization.
